Traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient form of medicine derived from East Asia. It is based on the idea that disharmony in the body is what causes dis-ease. If one aspect of your health is out of balance, it is going to affect the entire body, you can't separate the parts of the body and treat them as if they're not part of a larger whole. At Arnesen Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine we work to address the root cause of your concerns instead of covering up and treating your symptoms one-by-one. Traditional Chinese medicine not only includes acupuncture, but also herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion, and gua sha.
Acupuncture is the insertion of single-use, very thin, sterile needles into points on the body. It works by improving circulation & blood flow in the body. It works to promote the body's natural healing ability to perform at its best. It is commonly used for the treatment of pain, but is excellent at treating a variety of ailments ranging from painful periods & irregular cycles to the common cold & allergies. If you're curious if acupuncture can help you, feel free to contact me and schedule your free 15 minute consultation.
Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years for a variety of ailments ranging from acute conditions to chronic & long standing conditions. They are incredibly effective and have very few side effects when prescribed by a qualified & licensed herbalist. Herbal recommendations vary greatly from western pharmaceuticals as there is not one specific herb or formula for one ailment. Chinese herbal medicine is not a one size fits all approach, it is highly individualized for each person.
Cupping is used in the treatment of acute injury & chronic pain. It works on the fascia & muscles to release adhesion to promote healing. It is great to alleviate muscle tension, promote circulation, increase recovery, and ease pain. It is commonly used on the back and is often compared to a reverse massage. Instead of applying pressure to the muscles, a suction is formed in the cup which pulls the fascia, skin & muscles away from the body.
Moxibustion is the burning of the Chinese herb Ai Ye (Mugwort) close to the body. It is used to promote circulation, warm & nourish the body. It is also effective in the treatment of pain & injury. It is best known for enhancing fertility, increasing energy levels, boosting the immune system, and turning breached babies.
Gua Sha is the use of an object (often a stone or Chinese soup spoon) to scrape the skin thus producing temporary redness and bruising. It improves circulation & blood flow, releases adhesion in fascia, and is commonly used to treat acute injury & chronic pain.
